At the University of California, Irvine, providing equal opportunities for students with disabilities is a campus-wide responsibility and commitment. Disabilities include, but are not limited to, orthopedic, visual, hearing, learning, chronic health and psychological disabilities. UCI demonstrates its core values of individual growth and development and civility and diversity by recognizing students with disabilities as an important part of its student body.

Our mission is to empower students to reach their potential in every aspect of their lives by moving beyond success to significance through education, service, and support.

Biography: Haben Girma
The first Deafblind person to graduate from Harvard Law School, Haben Girma advocates for equal opportunities for people with disabilities. She is the daughter of refugees who developed a powerful path to success, rooted in her belief that inclusion is a choice. President Obama named her a White House Champion of Change. She received the Helen Keller Achievement Award, and a spot on Forbes 30 Under 30. Haben travels the world consulting and public speaking, teaching clients the benefits of fully accessible products and services. She's a talented storyteller who helps frame difference as an asset. She resisted society's low expectations, choosing to create her own pioneering story and uses her insights to expand our thinking, creating lasting, positive change among people and communities. Haben is working on a book that will be published by Hachette in 2019. Learn more at habengirma.com.

EMOTIONAL SUPPORT ANIMALThe Disability Services Center does not accept letters from the numerous online companies who (in exchange for a fee) purport to offer verification or certification of the need for an emotional support animal. To warrant approval of a request for an emotional support animal, a student should be prepared to submit appropriate medical documentation describing the functional limitations caused by the disability and the manner in which the support animal ameliorates these limitations.

New Testing Policy

For students who receive testing accommodations, please be sure to familiarize yourself with our new Disability Services Center Testing Policy.
